WEIGHTAGE OF CURRENT AFFAIRS IN BPSC PRE EXAM
When we go through the syllabus of BPSC Combined Competitive Examination, we observe that current affairs for BPSC Pre Exam are included in both stages, i.e. Pre and Mains examination.
On analysing previous year BPSC Pre Exam question papers, it is evident that almost 30 to 35 current affairs–based questions are asked out of 150 multiple-choice questions. These questions include current affairs of national, international, and Bihar-specific importance, making current affairs a decisive section for BPSC Prelims.
SOURCE OF PREPARATION
Plenty of sources are available in the market for preparation of current affairs for BPSC Pre Examination. Some BPSC aspirants depend on monthly current affairs magazines published by national institutes. These magazines include:
- Vision IAS Monthly
- Drishti IAS
- Civil Services Chronicle
- Ghatna Chakra
- Pratiyogita Darpan
Some aspirants also follow news portals, dedicated YouTube channels, Rajya Sabha TV, educational websites, and newspapers for current affairs preparation.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS
The most important point in preparing current affairs for BPSC Pre Exam is dependency on a single source. Aspirants should avoid using multiple sources, as it leads to confusion and lack of revision.
I strongly suggest choosing only one monthly magazine and revising it multiple times. During my own preparation for the BPSC Examination, I followed only one magazine, i.e. Civil Services Chronicle.
This magazine covers almost every aspect of current affairs preparation for BPSC Pre and Mains Exam in a structured manner. It is available in both Hindi and English medium, making it suitable for all aspirants.
HOW TO READ CIVIL SERVICES CHRONICLE MAGAZINE FOR BPSC PRE EXAM
In my opinion, preparation of notes for current affairs is not required for BPSC Pre Exam.
- Simply underline important facts while reading the magazine
- Revise the underlined portions repeatedly
- Focus on facts, schemes, reports, and Bihar-related issues
This approach saves time and improves retention for objective questions.
TIME SPAN FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS
Most aspirants have a common doubt regarding the time span of current affairs for BPSC Pre Exam.
In my opinion, aspirants must be well-versed with current affairs of the last one year before the examination. Thorough revision of one-year current affairs is sufficient to handle most questions asked in BPSC Prelims.
