INTRODUCTION
In this article, I am going to deliberate upon the geography preparation strategy for BPSC Pre Exam. In the succeeding paragraphs, I will discuss about books, topic-wise priority, and revision approach with appropriate examples for effective BPSC Prelims preparation.
GEOGRAPHY FOR BPSC PRE EXAM
Almost 18 to 22 questions are asked from Geography in BPSC Pre Exam. Geography can be mainly divided into three parts viz; Physical Geography, Indian Geography, and World Geography. The Geography of Bihar is also included in the BPSC Pre Exam syllabus, and in recent years many questions have been asked from Bihar Geography.
It is very important to mention that World Geography is a part of BPSC Pre Exam only and not a part of BPSC Mains Exam. Hence, world geography should not be studied for BPSC Mains Exam.
If you carefully observe previous year BPSC Pre Exam question papers, you will find that the maximum number of questions are asked from Geography of Bihar. We can categorise these sections of geography in order of their importance as below, where the first is the most important and the last is the least important. This priority should be followed strictly as per the BPSC syllabus.
- Geography of Bihar
- Geography of India
- World Geography
- Physical Geography

- BPSC Pre Exam is objective → focus on facts, data, places, and terminology

NOTES OF GEOGRAPHY FOR BPSC PRE EXAM
In my opinion, preparation of notes for Geography in BPSC Pre Exam is not needed.
- Simply underline important facts while reading books
- Use underlined facts as revision material
- During revision, focus only on highlighted portions
Preparation of separate notes for BPSC Prelims Geography is a mere wastage of time.
