INTRODUCTION
In this article I am going to discuss very prominent issue raised by BPSC aspirants and that is medium of examination. I come across with many aspirants who raise question for selection probability citing mains writing medium.
LANGUAGE OPTION IN BPSC EXAM
The question paper in the first stage of examination i.e pre-exam, is available in Hindi and in English medium only. Pre exam is objective in nature; hence language is not a big barrier in pre-exam. If you know the correct answer of any question, then simply you can encircle that option in OMR sheet. The second stage of examination is Mains exam, which is subjective in nature. Similar to Pre exam, mains exam question paper is also bilingual i.e in Hindi and in English. Here it is important to mention that answer in mains exam can be written down in three languages and these languages are Hindi, English and Urdu.
EXPECTATIONS OF BPSC IN MAINS EXAM
It is pertinent to mention in the beginning that BPSC award marks in mains exam on the basis of relevant views, opinion and content. I strongly believe that there is no issue when it comes to answer writing language. If you present your answer in good manner irrespective of language, then definitely you are going to fetch good marks. Your answer must have good expression.
it should be precise and compact. Here i would like to draw your kind attention on one more very common doubt among aspirants. Many aspirants are very worried for their bad hand writing. I would like to inform you that BPSC do not conduct mains exam to check your hand writing skill. They are only bothered about content of the answer. Your answer must be legible for the examiner. Here calligraphy is not needed.
CRITERION TO CHOOSE MEDIUM
Let’s see some criterion to choose medium of examination in BPSC. These parameters will help you to choose medium of examination.
Try to choose the medium in which you completed your school education.
Give priority to your mother tongue for writing mains exam.
Choose that language in which you are easy to express yourself.
If your optional subject in the mains exam is from science background, then try to choose English as answer writing medium.
Availability of study material is also to be taken into consideration while choosing medium.
MYTH ABOUT HINDI MEDIUM
The apprehensions regarding Hindi language are still in focus. The most common myth among BPSC aspirants is the point, that BPSC discriminate with Hindi medium aspirants. This is blatant lie and have no evidence to support such myth. In para 3 above I already described the need of BPSC in mains examination. If you fulfil the demand of questions in your answer in any languages, then you definitely will get good marks. BPSC has never been language biased. Here i would like to give my own example. I appeared in BPSC 60-62 batch with Hindi medium and secured rank 207. Further i appeared in 63rd BPSC with Hindi medium and again secured rank 39. I could improve my rank from 207 to 39 in the exam because of improvement in answer writing content. Once again i reiterate that marks are awarded for relevant views, opinions and points and the papers are examined by medium experts only.
If you have done your schooling in Hindi medium and also you are comfortable to express yourself well in Hindi, then Hindi is the best medium for you. BPSC Mains exam is all about concept and not about language. You have to write your opinions in mains exam. It is advisable to choose medium of mains exam in comfortable language. Don’t try to exaggerated your English knowledge to boast your English skills. Any such attempt will change your preparation direction and you will start learning language rather building concept. So, it’s better not to waste time thinking for choosing medium of exam rather than preparing it hard.
CHOOSE HINDI MEDIUM IF YOU HAVE DONE YOUR SCHOOLING IN HINDI
Hindi is your medium so you can easy to write exam at your own language.
In our own language our expressions can be easily written but in English you cannot give correct grammar and sentence format.
Questions are in Hindi so you can be easily understanding the question and answer in correct path.
CONCLUSION
So, I will leave this upon you to decide in what medium you could deliver better answers. Availability of study material is not a barrier now for choosing medium. There are plenty of sources that would be readily available for you online as well as offline no matter what medium you are appearing for. So, it is better to improve content and writing skills for mains exam rather wasting precious time pondering over medium of exam.
